Every project is unique but tends to follow a similar process.
An initial walk around your plot together followed by a chat at the kitchen table is a great place to start…
I’ll ask a lot of questions about how you want to use the space, your likes and dislikes, what styles you like, any practical considerations to be taken into account such as pets, children, accessibility and so on.
If, at the end of our discussions, we feel that we could work together (and it is very much a joint process), the next step is for me to go away and put together some initial ideas and mood boards. When you’ve had a chance to look at these, we’ll then get together again, in person or otherwise, to discuss them and the next steps.
At this stage, if you decide you’d like to proceed, I’ll provide a written brief with a full breakdown and explanation of how the process will work and what the costs will be.
Survey
Unless your plot is very small, a professional survey is usually essential to measure level changes, buildings, trees, utilities and services. This is done by a professional surveyor but I can put you in touch with people to help if you like.
(Some people see this as an “unnecessary” expense but I look at it this way - your outdoor space is what you see every single time you come home and every time you look out of your windows. It’s at least as important as any other room in your house and, lets face it, we wouldn’t undertake building works without a survey...)
